Cindy
Pluciennik

Cindy Pluciennik was an artist whose work speaks in the quiet language of color, form, and the beauty of the everyday. Her paintings—still lifes, landscapes, and figures—reveal a sensibility at once classical and distinctly modern: grounded in close observation, alive to structure and light, rendered with a painter’s instinct for what matters.

Cindy loved books as deeply as she loved painting—a life of looking and reading, of making and thinking. She moved through the world with curiosity, warmth, and an artist’s gift for seeing.

This site is a tribute to her life and art, created in her loving memory.

Cindy’s Fund

The Cindy Pluciennik Scholarship Fund

Established October 7, 2008

Burgess and I have elected to set up the Cindy Pluciennik Scholarship Fund. Our objective is to preserve Cindy’s memory by offering financial assistance to students based on academic achievement and financial need.

Initially we will offer scholarships to students, from selected public high schools, attending the University of Massachusetts at the Amherst, Boston or Lowell campus. In future, depending on the Fund’s resources, we may offer multiple year assistance to a student attending the International School of Boston pre-school & grammar school.

I will be responsible for the Cindy Pluciennik Scholarship Fund. The Fund will pay no expenses, salary or service fees with the exception of a Financial Coordinator (FC). The FC will be responsible for administering scholarship checks (issued in name of School & Student), cataloging annual Recommendation Forms and filing tax returns.

Past Scholarship Experience: Cindy and I have been awarding small scholarships to Somerville High School students via a Boston Foundation-Donor Advised Fund, the “deVille Fund” set up in 1995. The deVille Fund scholarships have been specifically targeted to Somerville HS students attending UMass Lowell (my alma mater). It is our intention to expand this style of scholarship to other public high schools.

Since the deVille Fund began the Boston Foundation has discontinued the Donor Advised “Scholarship type” Funds, frozen our principal and increased service fees. I feel greater scholarship distribution efficiency will be achieved with my accountant, Mr. Bruce Hakanson, setting up a simple non-profit corporation.
